Statement of PurposeThe Ohio Physicians For Midwives (OPFM) is a community of health care providers and researchers from many specialties who support the midwifery care model. We recognize a woman's right to choose a home birth and want the best possible care for these women. Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) are the national standard for Direct Entry Midwives serving the home birth community and we agree that they should be licensed in Ohio, as they are in 22 other States. A key objective of OPFM is to assemble a network of supportive physicians who recognize a family's rights of self- determination and to facilitate connecting families with supportive physicians who will care for them. Ohio Physicians for Midwives was established in 2008 by Ohio Families for Safe Birth in conjunction with Daniel M. Bowen, MD, a board certified OB/GYN from Cincinnati, OH. |
